What is the price of milk in the shops in Canada?

Grocery prices in Canada, from Statistics Canada. This source is answered live, so the page shows how to ask, not a number.

An official average or median published by a statistics office or regulator, not individual sales.

ProofPrice reads Statistics Canada when you ask, so the answer is always the latest published. It comes with its period, its source and its licence; a range built from records is given only when at least 5 records sit behind it.

Where this comes from

Source
Monthly average retail prices for selected products (Statistics Canada table 18-10-0245-01), published by Statistics Canada
Licence
Statistics Canada Open Licence. "Subject to this licence, Statistics Canada grants you a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to: use, reproduce, publish, freely distribute, or sell the Information; use, reproduce, publish, freely distribute, or sell Value-added Products; and, sublicence any or all such rights, under terms consistent with this licence." Conditions include accurate reproduction, no suggestion that Statistics Canada endorses the user, and the acknowledgment of source notices below.
Attribution
Source: Statistics Canada, Table 18-10-0245-01 Monthly average retail prices for selected products (reference month stated in each answer). Reproduced and distributed on an "as is" basis with the permission of Statistics Canada. Adapted from Statistics Canada, Table 18-10-0245-01 Monthly average retail prices for selected products. This does not constitute an endorsement by Statistics Canada of this product.
How fresh the source is
Monthly, not live: Statistics Canada publishes each month's averages about five weeks after the month ends (August 2026 was released on 7 October 2026), and every answer states its reference month
Limits
A monthly average for one standard size of each of 110 products, not the price in a particular shop and not a range: Statistics Canada gives no distribution and no count of transactions. Regions are Canada, the ten provinces, Whitehorse and Yellowknife (the two territories only since September 2025, and not every product, for confidentiality); no cities or postcodes. Statistics Canada cautions that these averages may not be fully comparable from one month to another, because the composition of a product category changes, and that they should not be used as a representative measure of pure price change through time; the data are subject to revision. For price change over time Statistics Canada's Consumer Price Index is the right measure.
Rule
A figure built from records is shown only when at least 5 records sit behind it; official statistics are shown as such, with their reference period. See how we earn trust and the method.
