Limits
Only contracts that buyers have recorded as signed on eTenders; many awards are never followed by a contract record, so the number of contracts is a small part of all South African public buying. The value is the contract value over the whole contract period (often 2 to 3 years); it is not a unit price and not an amount paid yet. Purchases are recognised from words in the contract description, so a contract with unusual wording is missed. Values under 1,000 rand (placeholders) and over 1 billion rand (entry errors) are left out. Aggregates only; suppliers and officials are never named or read.
Rule
A figure built from records is shown only when at least 5 records sit behind it; official statistics are shown as such, with their reference period. See how we earn trust and the method.
